Spring 2021

Project with Brown’s DesignStudio engineering course examining the process of food purchase, storage, and consumption through the lens of reducing food waste. We created a series of specialized containers which maintain an inventory of the user’s refrigerator via an app, and provide strong visual cues indicating an item’s expiration date.

This project was born from a passion for sustainability and identifying opportunities to make positive contributions to the climate in everyday life. When examining consumer habits and our own personal habits, we identified food waste as an opportunity to target on a household level. In developing this concept, our hope was that consumers would be more inclined to use the food they’d already purchased if they knew what they had and how to use it.
