Fall 2021

Conceptual business venture with Brown’s Entrepreneurial Process course which seeks to provide doulas to all mothers as a preventative measure against negative birth experiences and the subsequent development of postpartum depression. The idea is to partner with insurance providers to integrate culturally competent doula matching into the maternal healthcare system to reduce inequalities in care and provide strong support for new and expectant mothers. Over the course of developing this concept, we interviewed key stakeholders and conducted research to identify the total addressable market and determine the viability of a product like this, which was validated at every turn.

At the conclusion of the semester, we presented a minimum viable product and all relevant metrics involved in bringing a product such as this one to market. We were invited to join the Brown Venture Lab to pursue this project further, but with team members moving on to pursue other projects we had to put this project on hold.
